The Department of Contrast Studies at MEDIWIN HOSPITAL is a method of studying organs using X-rays and the administration of a special dye, called a contrast medium. This test allows the radiologist to evaluate structures that are not clearly evident on conventional X-ray exams. X-rays work by passing through the body.
It is a conventional radiological technique that also uses a contrast medium, i.e., a substance such as barium or iodine, which is opaque to radiation. The medium can be injected, ingested or introduced using an enema and produces a view of inside the human body.
A digital X-ray, or digital radiography, is a modern type of X-ray that utilises digital sensors instead of photographic film, as with a traditional X-ray. The image captured is converted to digital data immediately and is available for review within seconds.

There are three broad kinds of contrast available: IV, PO, and PR (rectal). IV contrast is either gadolinium for MRI or iodinated contrast for CT. PO contrast for all ER and inpatient CT scans is dilute iodinated contrast (same agent used for IV contrast in CT).
